FREMO in the UK - about us

Greetings!

Fremo has over 2000 members spread across most European countries with a few further afield. A small group of these are based in the UK.

UK members have been part of Fremo since 2006 but the UK group’s origins can be traced back to the Warley exhibition in 2011, at which we had a small information stand and the station of Lintelo built by Paul Hartmann from the Netherlands.

1. In 2013, again at Warley, we were able to have a small demonstration arrangement of Fremo 87 modules brought over by our European friends

The UK group’s interests are primarily Era 3/4 German in HO scale but there is also interest in other countries such as Netherlands, USA and of course the UK, as well as other gauges/scales.

Several modules have been, or are being constructed by UK members. This includes, including stations, fiddle yards and scenic modules that enable us to construct small arrangement for our own operating sessions (see Fig 4) or to take to meetings elsewhere.

Meetings

In 2018 we held the first Fremo meeting in the UK at Danehill in Sussex. In addition to the UK members, we were joined by members from the Netherlands and Germany and a number of guests.

The meeting was held over a weekend. We were a little nervous before the start, as this was our first attempt at organising a meeting but thanks to the great help, we had from the members who attended, it was very successful. A lot of lessons were learned which have helped set a direction for the group.

A short video of the event can be found here:

Before the current pandemic arose, we have held regular meetings of the group. These have included running sessions at a local school and working sessions at members homes. The following photo shows one of our first meetings. Considerable progress has been made on modules since then.

We now have the capability to run full FREMO meetings, including the provision of timetables, fast clocks and telephones.

Meetings typically are one or two days over a weekend including the necessary breaks at a local hostelry!

We plan to hold more meetings once the current situation has eased.

In the interim, we are keeping in touch through monthly Zoom meetings. Recently we have started to expand these to include our friends in other European Countries.
