Introducing 00Fremo

00 gauge modelling (4mm:1ft or 1:76) is widespread in the UK but not so well known outside the British Islands. A few Germans had recognised the potential of modelling to a British prototype and founded 00Fremo, a modular group for British prototypes embraced by the huge Fremo (Friends of European Railway Modellers) modelling club.
Though 00 gauge uses 16,5 mm track instead of the prototypical 18,83 mm to model 1435 mm / 4ft 8½ in gauge it is the easiest way to achieve a layout of a distintive British look. 00 gauge is slightly greater than H0 scale though these differences sometimes aren't noticeable. The 16,5 mm track ensures full compatibility to H0-RE modules. Even broad gauge models use 16,5 mm track in H0 scale so that is a common practice.
We use DCC control, Working timetables and clocks. Furthermore there are wagon cards and waybills for goods wagons like other Fremo groups do alike. It should be noted that we do distinguish vacuum and air brakes with our wagon cards so the station order will not be the only factor to look for when marshalling a train.
In Germany modellers of Britain (and Ireland) meet in the German language "Britische Bahn Forum": 75355.homepagemodules.de/. Most Germans speak at least a little English and the fact that this text is written by a German endorses this. English entries are welcome.
The 00Fremo norm can be found here:
Since creation there has been issued at least one appendix so please check the Downloads page.
Templates for wagon cards and waybills can be found on the Downloads page.
H0-RE modules are fully technically compatible to 00Fremo modules. H0-USA modules do need an adaptor of which there already exist many. Guest modules are welcome and embraced.
At the moment we have enough modules to recreate a partly single track, partly double track line with a short branch line. The focus currently is on the period from the early 50s up to the early 70s (Era 4 to 6), but plans to expand the timescale from Era 3 to 9 have already been drawn. Prototypical signalling & interlocking suitable for Fremo use is under development.
We hope to find new fellowers here in Germany soon to further expand our layout. FREMO (all groups, not just00Fremo) in the UK is a full-fledged community now, contact contactfremouk(at)gmail.com for further information.
